Everyday People: The views of Northside residents

Jacksonville Community Action Committee

In the latest edition of our Everyday People Roundtable, we spoke to local residents and business owners from Jacksonville’s Northside. They discussed challenges they face in their community, as well as their hopes for it.

Today’s conversation included Lekita Spann, co-founder of Mr. Potato Spread; Chef Onyx, owner of the Sweet and Savory Chef; Michael Sampson, executive director of Jacksonville Community Action Committee; and Charles Griggs, president of Eighth & Whitner Group.

The PACT Act

Last year, Congress passed the PACT Act, which grants veterans a service connection for a plethora of conditions related to toxic exposures, such as burn pits and Agent Orange. An AARP report found that two-thirds of veterans have no idea they are eligible to apply for these extended benefits.

As the deadline to apply approaches, Dan Nevins, an ambassador for Wounded Warrior Project, joined us with details on the PACT Act and how to apply.

Jaguars football

Our very own sports fanatic, Josh Torres, closes the show with an update on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
