Cultivating democracy; closing schools

Though the Duval School Board doesn't oversee charter schools, their ratings influence the district's overall "B" grade.

We preview Thursday's TEDxJacksonville Democracy Salon, which features four voices — journalist, artist, activist and technologist — sharing their ideas for building a more cohesive and effective democracy.


Then, with some 30 schools potentially on the chopping block, parents across Duval County are uniting to fight for their own — and others' — community schools. We talk to three parents and activists on the front lines of this battle about their proposed alternatives to educational consolidation.
