What's Health Got to Do with It?

Medical Roundtable; 'No Patient Left Alone'

NIAID-RML via AP

Health headlines continue to reflect and even refract the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. To help us make sense of where we find ourselves health-wise, we invited a panel of medical experts to help us sort through the biggest health headlines of the month.

Guests:

  • Dr. Joseph Drazkowski, professor of neurology at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix.
  • Dr. Jewel Kling, associate professor of medicine, chair of the Division of Women's Health Internal Medicine, assistant director of the Women's Health Center and associate chair of equity, inclusion and diversity for the Department of Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.
  • Dr. Swapna Reddy, JD, MPH, Ph.D., professor of science of health care delivery, health policy and diversity and health inequalities at Arizona State University in Phoenix.

'No Patient Left Alone'

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law last week called the "No Patient Left Alone Act." The new law requires hospitals, nursing homes and health care facilities to allow in-person visits. It follows the same protocol as staff and still allows precautions to be adjusted depending on circumstances.

Guest: Mary Shannon Daniel, an advocate for this law and the wife of a dementia patient.
