2/13/19: Tax Season; Real Talk; Going Green; Video: Singing Valentines

A major overhaul of the tax code that took effect last year promised relief, but now that returns are being filed, some people are baffled. They’re getting smaller refunds — or sometimes having to write a check to Uncle Sam — even though nothing in their situation seems to have changed.

Jeffrey Gottlieb, a CPA and UNF Accounting & Finance Instructor, joined us to discuss the issue in more detail.

Real Talk

Our city elections are just over a month away. But, it seems like they are already on everyone’s minds - especially the mayoral race between Mayor Lenny Curry and City Councilwoman Anna Brosche - both of whom are Republicans. In order to force Curry into a runoff, Brosche will have to pull most of the votes from the black community and from Jacksonville Democrats.

In today’s Real Talk, WJCT Contributor Charles Griggs and friends discussed whether that strategy is going to work.

Going Green

How do you get to events at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, or elsewhere on the First Coast? Would you use green transportation if it was available? If so, you may be in luck. Heather Neville, the Founder & President of VeloFest, joined us with more in today’s Going Green.

Singing Valentines

Why send your love a card or some chocolates, when you can send him or her a singing Valentine, instead?

Susan Brooks, Lead Singer of the Sapphire Quartet, which is part of the Jacksonville Harmony Chorus, joined us with more.

We also talked them into doing a Studio 5 Sessions performance. Enjoy.
