4/3/19: JEA HQ; Marsy's Law; Jennifer Hale; RAW Talk

VIA JACKSONVILLE DAILY RECORD
Ryan Companies US Inc. has been selected to build JEA's new headquarters near the Duval County Courthouse.

JEA is staying in downtown Jacksonville. On Tuesday, the JEA board announced the utility will build a  new corporate headquarters tower on West Adams Street, near the Duval County courthouse.

The move surprised some observers who had assumed the utility would relocate to Lot J, which is the site next to TIAA Bank Field that Jaguars owner Shad Khan wants to develop. David Cawton, Associate Editor of the Jacksonville Daily Record, joined us with more.

Marsy’s Law

Last fall, Florida voters approved Amendment Six, also known as Marsy’s Law. The measure says victims have the right to privacy.  It prevents records from being made public when they could be used to locate or harass the crime victim or a victim's family.

But the law has also triggered a big change in law enforcement policies. Last week, Jacksonville police stopped saying where some crimes occurred and who the alleged victims were.

Florida Times-Union Reporter Andrew Pantazi has been looking into how the implementation of Marsy’s Law could be having unintended consequences. He joined us, along with Former Judge and Marsy’s Law for Florida Lobbyist Paul Hawkes, for a closer look.

Jennifer Hale

At the age of 38, Jennifer Hale, a sideline reporter for FOX Sports, was diagnosed with heart disease, and more specifically, a condition called dilated cardiomyopathy.

Hale is healthy today because doctors intervened. However, heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the U.S. - but knowing the signs and symptoms can save your life.

She joined us to preview the Sisisky-Kleppinger Annual Endowed Lecture for Women’s Health, which she’ll be giving Wednesday, April 10 from 5:45-8:30 p.m. here at WJCT Studios at 100 Festival Park Ave, Jacksonville, FL, 32202. This talk is free and open to the public.
