Our First Coast Week in Review panel discusses the week’s most prominent headlines. Among them:

  • An appellate court ruled Wednesday that Gov. Ron DeSantis violated the free-speech rights of former State Attorney Andrew Warren in Hillsborough County. DeSantis suspended Warren from office in August 2022, citing poor job performance. Warren had publicly disagreed with some of DeSantis' actions.
  • St. Johns County Commissioner Krista Joseph took legal action against four fellow board members and State Attorney R.J. Larizza, alleging a violation of her First Amendment rights. Her colleagues voted to censure her for comments she made during a meeting in November.
  • The attorney representing Vergillio Aguilar-Mendez argues that his client was subjected to racial profiling and is urging for the dismissal of charges in St. Johns County. Aguilar-Mendez, an 18-year-old migrant worker from Guatemala, faces manslaughter allegations after a confrontation with Sgt. Michael Kunovich, who died shortly later of a heart attack.
  • The Jaguars went into the season with high expectations, but the season came to an end after a late-season collapse.

Our panel:

  • Angela Spears, radio host, journalist and the face behind Angela Spears Communication.
  • Jack Webb, attorney and former Jacksonville City Council president.
  • Claire Goforth, investigative reporter with the Daily Dot.
  • Dan Scanlan, reporter with WJCT News 89.9.
