On Tuesday’s show: Ask the Mayor

Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan
Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan

As a new legislative session gets underway — one that could conceivably lead to a gutting of the city’s budget through property tax cuts — we ask Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan what bills she’s watching in Tallahassee, and what influence a Democratic city leader has in effecting change. We also ask how she’s preparing for the possibility of AI data centers in the region and the certainty of a bruising jail site search in 2026. We also take your calls and questions. Call (904) 549-2937 to talk to the mayor on air, or submit a comment or question in advance at firstcoastconnect.org.

Local hip-hop artist takes over Sip & Stroll

Then, from his days performing in city street cyphers to, now, touring and recording, Kale James has made his name in the world of legit local hip-hop. We catch up with the rapper and hear some of his latest work ahead of his performance Thursday on the Southbank Riverwalk. His show is part of a chilly weather "S'more Sip & Stroll" featuring the classic s’mores and hot chocolate, along with the usual adult beverages from 5-8 p.m.

Guest: Kale James, Jacksonville hip-hop artist and featured performer at Sip & Stroll

Honoring the Rev. King

And, Eastside residents and volunteers are celebrating the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. with a beautification project along a street named for one of King’s allies and the progenitor of the 1963 March on Washington. A Philip Randolph Boulevard (aka Florida Avenue) is the focus of an MLK Week of Service makeover, set to include facade makeovers, a community cleanup and the addition of several new bike racks.

Guest: Avery McKnight, board chair, Florida Avenue Main Street
