8/8/19: New FSCJ President; 'Facing the Dragon;' Pop-Up Country Music Coming To 89.9 HD4

Aug 8, 2019

FSCJ is one of the state’s largest institutions of higher education, with nearly 50-thousand students enrolled annually.

And as many of those students begin the fall semester, a new president – John Avendano – is at the helm. He joined us to discuss his first few weeks in the role, and what lies ahead for the school.

Facing the Dragon

A film called Facing the Dragon is screening at MOCA Jacksonville tonight, and will be followed by a Q&A with award-winning filmmaker Sedika Mojadidi. She joined us with a preview.

Pop Up Country

WJCT’s latest Pop-Up station debuts August 15, 2019 on 89.9FM HD4, and will feature country music.

Listen to country, folk, bluegrass and blues by the musicians who created it — from the Carter family, Jimmie Rodgers and Bob Wills, to Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Charley Pride, BB King, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Emmylou Harris, Garth Brooks and many more.

Pop-Up Country Music on 89.9FM HD4 will explore country music in recognition of Ken Burns’ latest documentary Country Music, which is coming to WJCT-TV in September.

David Luckin, WJCT’s Station Manager and the host of Electro Lounge, joined us to tell us more about it.
