On Wednesday’s show: Condos in crisis

Coast guard boats patrol in front of the partially collapsed Champlain Towers South condo building, ahead of a planned visit to the site by President Joe Biden, on Thursday, July 1, 2021, in Surfside, Fla. Search and rescue workers, who have had to contend with summer rainstorms, fires within the debris, and the threat of collapse from the still standing portion of the building, were not visible atop the rubble on Thursday morning, as scores of people remain missing one week after the collapse.(AP Photo/Mark Humphrey)

The tragedy of the 2021 collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside created a cascade of its own condo calamities, from skyrocketing HOA costs to a reluctance by some lenders to offer mortgages to entire condo communities. We talk to a local expert in condo and real estate law about what legislative changes are being wrought in Tallahassee and what remedies are available to willing sellers and buyers.

Guest:

  • Barry Ansbacher,* board certified real estate lawyer and condo expert.

(*Ansbacher Law is an underwriter of WJCT Public Media.)

Then, a local artists’ collaborative celebrates 20 years of supporting First Coast artists, both professionally and practically. We talk with a founder and a member of The Art Center Cooperative about the significance of the anniversary and how the community can join the celebration.

Guests:

  • Ed Malesky, woodturning artist and member of The Art Center Cooperative Inc.
  • Annelies Dykgraaf, founding member and president of The Art Center Cooperative Inc.

And, thinking outside the galaxy is the focus of the upcoming MOSH presentation Storm of Stars. From a time when scientists believed our galaxy was the universe to understanding our small place in a vast expanse, the exploration is the latest installment of the museum’s Silver Space Series (for those 55+). We also preview a command encore screening of Electro Lounge Night Out at the Planetarium on May 30.

Guest:

  • Eddie Whisler, planetarium director at the Museum of Science & History.
