River City Readers
A familiar voice and face that our dedicated First Coast Connect listeners will recognize, Melissa Ross, now serves as the director of strategic initiatives and press liaison for the city of Jacksonville. She's here to talk about River City Readers, Mayor Donna Deegan’s new literacy initiative encouraging children to read for at least 20 minutes a day. The launch of the yearlong challenge is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jacksonville Main Library.

School resupply
As the school year reaches its midpoint, often celebrated as the “halfway mark,” reality sets in. By the time the 100th school day arrives, numerous classrooms face supply shortages. To address this challenge, local organizations have united to support Title 1 elementary schools in the heart of the city. The initiative launches Saturday at the Riverside Arts Market.
