From research funding cuts to a proposed rollback of child labor laws, pediatric advocates say the challenges to Florida's kids are increasing steadily. We talk with three prominent child advocates about how the perfect storm of federal funding cuts, legislative changes and inconsistent health policy is affecting the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

Guests:

  • Norín Dollard, senior policy analyst/KIDS COUNT Director at the Florida Policy Institute.
  • Dr. Jeffrey Goldhagen, Department of Pediatrics, University of Florida College of Medicine.
  • Dr. Mobeen Rathore, Department of Pediatrics, UF College of Medicine.

Then, faculty members say they are outraged by the surprise firing of almost 40 teachers at Jacksonville University and the sudden dissolution of departments and class offerings. After last week’s overwhelming faculty vote of no confidence in JU President Tim Cost, we talk to current and former teachers about what recent developments could mean for the future of the private university.

Guests:

  • Erich Freidberger, chair, Jacksonville University philosophy department.
  • Scott Watkins, professor of piano at Jacksonville University.
